Materials processing is a university course that covers the fundamentals of materials science and engineering, including the history of materials science, classification of materials, and the role of materials in society. Students will learn about the structure of materials, atomic structure and bonding, defects in solids, mechanical properties of materials, thermodynamics of materials, materials characterization techniques, kinetics of materials processes, metal casting and solidification processes, metal forming processes, welding and joining techniques, polymer processing, ceramic processing, composite materials processing, additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy, surface and coating technologies, and recycling and sustainability in materials processing.
